About Me

Alejandro Mathé is a writer and director based in Germany.

Alejandro Mathé was born on Ibiza (Spain) in 1990 to a German mother and an Andalusian father. Growing up multilingual and halfway between Germany and Spain, he developed a unique interest in intersectional stories and characters. Especially in issues of social class, sexuality and gender expression.

After many detours, including a degree in translation from the University of Granada (Spain), a gap year in Guildford (United Kingdom) and four years working as a quality manager for Microsoft technical support, in 2019 he started a Bachelor of Arts program in film directing at the ifs Internationale Filmschule Köln (Germany). Branching out has given him the opportunity to take on the role of director with an open mind and an embracing approach to teamwork.

During his time at film school he has directed three short films that have premiered at international film festivals and won awards.

His graduation film EL MÁRTIR, financed with funds of the Film- und Medienstiftung NRW, was filmed during the span of three weeks in Andalusia (Spain) in September of 2022. It has been nominated for the categories Middle Length Film and Michael-Ballhaus Prize for Camera at the First Steps Awards 2023.

He is currently developing the script for his debut film.
